My Favorite Inspirations

– Scroll down for English version –

– ENGLISH –

Several readers have asked me about where I find my inspiration for my health and lifestyle. I find inspiration from MANY different places, and in this post I share my favorites, including the ones that initiated my personal “health journey”. I hope you find inspiration from my favorite inspiration-sources too!

My personal health journey began back when I lost my father (most of you already know about this, but I will shortly mention some of the events in favor for new readers and in order to make sure that the context makes sense). Loosing my father gave me a huge need for security and stability (control) in my life, and I tried to create this by following a strict and “super-healthy” diet and lifestyle. After some time I began to experience different symptoms; hair loss, missing periods, ovarian cysts, ankle swelling, digestive problems, dull skin and lack of energy. All this happened despite the fact that I was “so healthy”!? The symptoms would later prove to be caring signals from my body that I was not as healthy as I thought…
It took quite some time for me to understand my own body and its signals. I started to read and seek knowledge and possible explanations for what was wrong with me. My number one inspiration and biggest impact on my health journey was and still is Deepak Chopra (I therefore kind of call him my guru, hehe). I started to read all his books and EVERYTHING I could find by him. He was the first to teach me how important happiness is for our overall health. Not least I can recommend his books Super Brain and The Ultimate Happiness Prescription.
I realized that my body’s signals and all the symptoms was about too little happiness in my life and too much stress. My “super healthy” diet and lifestyle was too stringent and restrictive – especially it limited my happiness. It all began to make sense to me. Many of his books gave me the tools and advices that I needed to move on. Not long after this my hormones started to normalize, my skin cleared up, and my ankles were no longer swollen. I was so grateful to have found Deepak Chopra, and I started to dream about meeting him one day and thank him personally (and can you imagine that my dream came true some years later!! Next dream must be to work with him one day, who knows …)

My first meeting with Deepak at his Chopra Center in San Diego. Happy happy me! If you want to understand my joy this was bigger to me than meeting Ryan Gosling or Brad Pitt!! 😉

Deepak Chopra was the beginning of my new “health beliefs”, and since then I have continued on that path. I have become aware of the great impact of one’s mentality and mental health. The good life is a side effect of happiness – not the other way around. Since then I have tried to move further in that direction by educating myself to become a Psychologist (I am currently doing my Masters degree), I have educated myself as a mindfulness practitioner and I practice yoga and meditation in my daily life as an important part of my personal health and beauty care. I have learned that health is about far more than carrots and jogging…
Inspiration for mental health
Deepak Chopra – On his website, The Chopra Center, I always read his many inspiring blog posts and news.
Louise Hay – Louise Hay is a cancer surviver. She is convinced that she survived by changing her life and using affirmations, visualizations, psychotherapy and eating a cleansing diet. On her website she shares her fascinating lifestyle, view of health and several tools and inspiration for more health and well-being.
Bruce Lipton – Bruce combines research and spirituality, and his knowledge and insights amazes me forever. Our thoughts affect our body all the way down to our smallest cellular level. I follow his blog and research eagerly. You should check it out.
Eckhart Tolle – Spiritual teacher with incredibly inspiring experiences and knowledge about mindfulness and the spiritual world. I see his videos on youtube. His vision of thoughts and their enormous power is so inspiring!
They are all SUPER inspiring, incredibly talented and have a solid background. Knowledge on a very, very high level! You should definitely check them out.

Inspiration for diet and exercise

Happiness, self-love, self-care and LISTENING to my body has been and still is the foundation for my own healing and health journey. This being said, it is not the “only” things I do. I also make sure to eat a diet that gives me the necessary nutrients and do the kind of training that brings me joy and reliefs stress.
Bjarne Stigsby – A Danish doctor, fertility expert and author. In particular, I will recommend his books Eat yourself into pregnancy and Eat yourself healthy (my own translations of Danish titles). Whether you want to get pregnant or not, they can be read by anyone. They provide a great insight into how you can eat an anti-inflammatory and fertility-enhancing diet. Baby wishes or not, all women must always be fertile and have a healthy and regular cycle.
David Perlmutter – His book Brain Maker is one of my favorites which I return to over and over again. I am not sure how many times I have been reading it. It reviews from numerous studies and scientific evidence the importance of a healthy gut and not least brings you specific tools and advice on how to create a healthy gut. Very, very important for all of us!
Dr. Josh Axe – Expert in natural medicine, clinical dietician and has created a fantastic health universe called Food is Medicine. I often visit his sight for inspiration and advice about healthy food and not least he talks a lot about how to create a healthy gut.
Chris Kresser – Chris Kresser talks about alternative medicine, ancestral diet and paleo. He has an holistic view on health. I especially love to hear his podcasts.
– Furthermore I would like to recommend the books Adrenal fatique – the 21th century stress syndrome by James L. Wilson (must read for everyone who experiences stress – who does not these days?) and the Danish book Hormonal harmony (my own translation) by Caroline Fibæk (insight in the hormonal system and typical hormonal issues and not least what you specifically can do about it)
I live a balanced life. I am happy! I take care of my body and it responds correspondingly. My cycle is normalized, my skin is prettier, no swelling, and I am HAPPY! I want this for all of you too.

Remember, always listen to yourself and your own body

What works for me does not necessarily work for you. If there is anything that I have learned on my health journey it is that YOUR body is the wisest and most intelligent barometer for YOU. Listen to it. It has all the answers you need. I still practice on listening to my body every day and I try to respond with love, care and respect. It has brought me far, so far…
