Hvad gør du for at holde dig glad i hverdagen? “Tidligt i seng, får nok hvile, transcendental meditation, yoga, motion, sund kost, positive relationer og meningsfyldt arbejde.”
Hvornår føler du dig allermest glad? “Hele tiden. Stort set hele tiden.
“Gå tidligt I seng.

In this post doctor and ayurvedic expert, Charlotte Bech, shares her personal best happiness tips and lets us know what she does to keep herself happy in everyday life. Charlotte explains that there exists two kinds of happiness, and it is only one of them that brings health.

Read about my other interview with Charlotte and who is she is HERE.
What is happiness to you? “There are two kinds of happiness. One is depending on external circumstances. The other is the persistent and inner happiness. The inner happiness is independent of external influences, and it arises from within as an inner joy that has nothing to do with any external circumstances. Regarding health, it’s about the inner happiness. The outer happiness has no great impact on health, such as the kind of happiness it is to me to be seated at a beautifully set table. The outer happiness is superficial and has nothing to do with health. It is the second and inner happiness we are talking about in relation to health. It’s about the deep and lasting happiness. If, for instance, a person becomes famous in one day by being in a program like paradise hotel, that person can get a certain feeling of happiness, but it is the outer and exterior kind. And this kind do not bring happiness. In research it has been found that the inner happiness influences our dNA and affects which genes will be expressed. Do you have a meaningful life and a happiness coming from within? The inner and healthy happiness occurs when one experiences meaning of life, do something good for others or through meditation. And that’s the kind of happiness that brings real health. Healthy happiness is the interior. “
How do you keep yourself happy? “Early to bed, enough rest, transcendental meditation, yoga, exercise, healthy diet, positive relationships and meaningful work.”
When do you feel the most happy? “All the time. Pretty much all the time. But you know that there is a correlation between whether you are rested, and how happy you are. For instance, you have studied a group of doctors who have not slept enough, to find out whether they make more mistakes due sleep deprivation. We have found out that they actually do not necessarily make more mistakes, but they are in a worse mood and lack happiness. We know that you get happier by getting enough sleep. Among other things you can measure that by the level of serotonin, the body’s happiness hormone. It is such, that serotonin is produced during a deep, good, long and early sleep. Serotonin is also produced during transcendental meditation. This way you can actually create your own happiness. “
What is your greatest happiness killer? “Fatigue! It is for all people. Fatigue is our worst enemy. Our enemy number one in terms of happiness and health. We have a tendency to ignore the body’s natural need for sleep. However, we are very good at listening to the body’s need for food. Are we hungry? We eat. But we are bad at listening to our need for sleep. Are we tired? We might drink a cup of coffee instead of sleeping more. If we do not get enough sleep, happiness will be “cut short.” It will make us live a unhappy life. If you on the other hand get enough sleep and meditate your future and the whole world will look brighter, your happiness is greater, our your experience of life will be expanded. The range of life gets bigger. “
What is your best happiness tip? “Get in bed early. Wake up early. Experience the early morning light – research shows that it bring more happiness. But do not get up early if you have not gotten to bed early too. You need enough sleep otherwise you will miss out on happiness. Sun, light, air, water – inside and outside – all provide health and happiness in body and mind. And transcendental meditation is a very good advice – it brings happiness quickly, typically after a few days for most people. “
I think it is very interesting that there are two kinds of happiness when it comes to health. And I really believe that you are able to feel which is the real and inner kind of happiness. “Healthy happiness” is not just a moment like when you get a new pair of shoes. Love, good relationships, meaningful existence, the sense of contributing and making a difference in life – yes, that’s true and lasting joy. What makes you sincerely happy from deep inside?
And yes, we know it – sleep is important, but here’s another good reason to sleep enough. It simply makes us happy!
